13 weeks old pup clings to favorite toy as she is formally placed on death row

As shelter staff at the Miami-Dade Animal Services Pet Adoption (MDS) In Doral, FL 33166 would concur, Ava, a 13 weeks old pup goes nowhere without her favorite stuffed animal. Ava loves that toy so much in fact, that sometimes staff has to intervene and take it away temporarily, so she doesn’t forget to eat.

This is quite an adorable thing on the surface, however, Ava’s reality is much more stark. The MDS is not the nurturing shelter, where dogs and cats receive care and attention before they find loving homes. In fact, it is the exact opposite. In fact, the MDS is a high kill shelter where the animals trapped in the facility are given just weeks and sometimes even just days to find homes before they are “humanely euthanized”

Ava is no different and just last Friday, she was moved to the back room known in shelter parlance as “death row.” As she got the news, Ava, cuddled up to her toy, to find comfort in the only thing that makes her happy. Sad indeed.
